2016 FREE LUNCH PROGRAM AT BAYER FARM
Monday marked the beginning of LandPaths' Free Lunch Program at Bayer Farm, a program that we run in partnership with the Redwood Empire Food Bank. The free lunch program is open to all youth 18 and under, with or without a parent present, and runs from June 6th to August 5th. In addition to serving a warm lunch Monday- Friday from 12-1pm all summer long, there are daily, family activities planned for each afternoon. Monday and Tuesday the bookmobile will be open. Wednesday sports activities will be facilitated. Thursday food bags will be available for families to take home, and Fridays there will be presentations from local partnering agencies and groups. Afternoon activities and presenters are free and open to the public, regardless of whether your children have participated in the Free Lunch Program.
After Lunch Offerings this Summer at Bayer Farm:
June 10th & June 24th at 1pm: Doctors from Vista Clinic, who serve many families in Roseland, and often prescribe "Park Time" to their patients, will bring a blender bike to the farm to prepare smoothies with and for the kids, as well as 50 stethoscopes!
June 17th at 1pm: Bayer Farm will host the iREAD Outside Kickoff Event, in partnership with Cradle to Career. Jorge Argueta will read from one of his many children’s books such as Salsa and Guacamole.
July 12 & July 15th at 1pm: The Imaginists will engage kids and families with live, interactive theatre.
A unique collaboration between Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks and LandPaths, Bayer Farm is a 6-acre urban farm & city park-in-the-making in the heart of the Roseland neighborhood, one mile from Downtown Santa Rosa, with old barns, community gardens, and other agricultural aspects that are a joyful relief from the urban environment!
Sit beneath the walnut tree as the kids explore the garden or ride their bikes. Stroll on the walking paths and pause to admire the uninterrupted view of Taylor Mountain. Visit the goats or admire the gardens, ever-changing with the seasons. You can even lend a hand in the garden during our Community Volunteer Hours and take home fresh produce!
During the Open Garden Days, and public workdays, you can help the garden by pitching in on our projects! Children are welcome to volunteer also, or play in the natural play areas. Bikes, kites, and ball-playing are welcome. There is a walking path as well as a few picnic tables.
Bayer Farm is located at 1550 West Ave in Santa Rosa (across from Sheppard School). West Ave runs north/south between Hearn and Sebastopol Road in the Roseland neighborhood.
