Permitted Access

The permit-for-use concept was first introduced in Sonoma County by LandPaths at the 3,300-acre Willow Creek addition to Sonoma Coast State Park. This innovative model piloted access to then private property owned by the Mendocino Redwood Company. The program, recognized for offering public access and stewardship during a time of State Parks budget limitations, has become critical to the protection of the property.

Regional Parks plans to apply this model at Tolay Park, allowing public access during the planning and permitting process. Permit orientations build a community better informed about the land and its values, and engage volunteers in stewardship. Without these programs, publically-owned properties can wait years before budgets and planning allow public use to be developed.

With a Willow Creek permit, you can hike, bike or horseback ride this amazing community-powered park near Duncans Mills.

If you would like to obtain a permit to access Willow Creek, you can download program information (100k PDF) and an application (100k PDF).
