A walk beneath Ranchero Mark West’s towering Redwoods and Douglas-fir forest is inspiring, as is traversing the length of crystal-clear Mark West Creek with its steelhead and salmon at this future preserve just outside Santa Rosa. Visit the gazebo and pond, historic ranch house or the old barn and corral to see where stage coach passengers once stopped to square dance. By doing this you get a glimpse of both Sonoma’s history where people-and-land were intertwined as well as how this land can be part of a bright future for our region. This future can be realized for school children and visitors for generations to come with the creation of the publicly-accessible Ranchero Mark West Nature Center. Explore this property »

These communities support animals such as deer, jackrabbit, bobcat, and mountain lion and more than 40 species of birds. Visitors are invited to explore the current trail network at the 155-acre Preserve and check out the spectacular vistas throughout the property.
