Bayer Farm: 1550 West Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA
9 AM - 12 PM
Saturday, May 18th
Bayer Neighborhood Park and Gardens is a unique collaboration between Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks and LandPaths. It is a 6-acre urban farm & city park-in-the-making in the heart of the Roseland neighborhood, 1 mile from Downtown Santa Rosa, with old barns, community gardens, and other agricultural aspects that are a joyful relief from the urban environment!
Sit beneath the walnut tree as the kids explore the garden or ride their bikes. Stroll on the walking paths and pause to admire the uninterrupted view of Taylor Mountain. Visit the goats or admire the gardens, ever-changing with the seasons. You can even lend a hand in the garden during our Community Volunteer Hours and take home fresh produce!
"Farming For Health" at Bayer Farm
The “Farming for Health” project at Bayer Farm Neighborhood Park & Gardens was initiated by and for members of the community, in order to actively address personal and family health issues, such as diabetes, that often require drastic shifts towards healthy eating. Using the powerful tools of community connection and personal experience, “Farming for Health” aims to share specific and relevant strategies on healthy eating, that in turn lead to healthy people.
The “Farming for Health” project is comprised of Roseland Community members coming together to explore and share ideas on growing vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants. The group will work together to create a “Farming for Health” garden plot (or two) at Bayer Farm, including nutritional and medicinal plants, labeling each one with information regarding its benefits to nutrition and health. The group will also organize healthy eating workshops and cooking sessions, where family-tested recipes can be shared. Ultimately the group hopes to create bilingual printed materials including healthy eating recipes and other helpful information for distribution at Bayer Farm and beyond.
Great partnerships happening at Bayer Farm!
