Discover a Love for Reading and Nature

iRead Outside/YoLeo Afuera

Reading aloud is the most important thing you can do to get your child ready for kindergarten. Time in nature has been shown to improve focus, wellbeing, and happiness. With iRead Outside, we’ve combined the two! iRead Outside is an early childhood literacy program from families with young children ages 0-5. This program provides opportunities for families to combine a love of reading with a love of being outdoors while building community around Bayer Farm and exploring other properties around Sonoma County.

While iRead Outside is geared towards children 5 and younger, older youth are welcomed to participate and contribute as reading mentors. The program emphasizes a love for reading, promotes a sense of wonder in nature, and supports parents and caregivers as they help their child or children understand stories and develop language skills through books about nature.

On a typical iRead Outside event, we will engage in reading bilingual nature-themed books in a garden, farm, or park setting. We will look at bugs and insects, do arts and crafts or sing, and have plenty of time to play!
