The Russian River Teen Trek is the chance for teens ages 12-15 to connect with and grow to love the beautiful river from the uniquely fun view of a kayak! Our experienced educators will guide youth in learning new skills centered on safely paddling themselves down the river and studying the rich flora and fauna of our watershed, while making new friends, building confidence, and disconnecting from screens for a few days.

Check back in late winter 2023 for next year’s dates, registration, and scholarship information!

What can you expect from a Teen River Trek?

  • 5 to 7 miles paddled daily, plus games, ecology study, storytelling, swimming, river play, yoga, etc.
  • Training in water safety and paddling skills.
  • Experienced guides certified in wilderness first aid, CPR, and swift water rescue.
  • No prior experience necessary, though you should have a level of comfort with being in and around water.

The Trek will be staffed by a stellar crew of experienced outdoor educators and water lovers. Core staff, who are wilderness first aid, wilderness first responder, CPR, and swift water rescue certified, will always be on the water with the teens. We will also be joined by a select team of dedicated and experienced adult volunteers excited to share their knowledge and love of the scenic Russian River. All our staff and volunteers have been fingerprinted and gone through a thorough background check. We will always have a minimum 1 adult to 5 youth ratio on the water. Likely it will be a 1:4 or even 1:3 ratio.

LandPaths is actively committed to making camp accessible for every teen. Thanks to funding from partners and donors, we can offer scholarships to at least 50% of participants. Please don’t hesitate to apply for a scholarship if the cost makes camp inaccessible for you!

Important: Make sure to fill out the scholarships application and then wait to hear back from a LandPaths’ staffer BEFORE registering for camp. All scholarship applications must be pre-approved before you register for camp.

*Please note that filling out this scholarship application is the first step in the process. It does not actually guarantee a scholarship.

" You’re going on this trek together. You’re feeling and getting to know the water. It changes your perception of the river because you’re part of it. "
