Claire S. McMurtry, Development Manager (she/her), joined LandPaths in July 2020. She brings to her work a lifelong love of wild places and nearby nature, fifteen years of experiences as an environmental and farm and garden educator/program manager, over a decade of success in values-aligned fundraising, and an affection for spreadsheets.
Claire was formatively affected by her experiences in the outdoors from the Sierra Buttes to Point Reyes National Seashore to Tilden Park in her hometown of Berkeley. She worked seasonally for fifteen years at Point Reyes Summer Camp. During that time, she earned a B.S. in Botany from Humboldt State University, following stints at UC Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, and massage school. She also worked as a naturalist at residential outdoor schools.
Before joining LandPaths, Claire was Development Director for YES Nature to Neighborhoods in Richmond. It was there that she began working in earnest to address both systemic and personal participation in racial and environmental injustice. Prior to YES, Claire worked as a naturalist instructor, program manager, grants manager, and event producer with Vida Verde Nature Education.
Claire has a passion for solo adventures in nature, ethnobotany and herbalism, and West African and Congolese dance. She is a three-time, Tri-County Second Runner-up Bronze Medal Marshmallow Roasting Champion.
