Steven La Gatta (he/him) joined LandPaths in 2023 as Facilities Lead, helping to maintain and develop the infrastructure that allows the public to access our preserves and programming smoothly and safely.

Steven was born and raised in Marin County, and has called the North Bay home for most of his life. His childhood home was located just minutes from a trail network that led all over the county, and as he grew up his rambling hikes grew longer and longer (much to the chagrin of his parents, who often had to come pick him up in the twilight due to his complete lack of route planning).

After getting his fill of abstractions while studying philosophy at Lewis & Clark College, he came back to the Bay Area with a desire to get his hands dirty working with the tangible. His love of the natural world combined with his craving for physicality led to stints in farming and gardening, environmental education (at Walker Creek Ranch in Marin), trail building, and, eventually, facilities work for land-based nonprofits.

Before coming to LandPaths, Steven was working and living at the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center, where he helped to rebuild their storied and beloved barn. These formative years combined and solidified his orienting values — a community-oriented lifestyle lived closely to the land, with days spent largely outside working with his body, learning and teaching and enjoying the act of contributing to something meaningful.

Steven can often be found birding in the local wetlands, rock climbing, playing music, or woodworking. He is thrilled to be a part of the LandPaths team, and looks forward to deepening his connection to land and community through his work here.
